Geographical Advantage:   Industries in Steel, Aluminium & Cement. It’s largely Power surplus status is attracting power intensive industries & the state is poised to become the power hub of the nation. Chhattisgarh state has an occurrence of about 28 major minerals and a number of. Other mineral deposits are being evaluated & mined. States major mineral resources include Coal, Iron-ore, Bauxite, Lime-stone and Dolomite etc. Chhattisgarh accounts for 14% of major mineral production of India. The economy of Chhattisgarh is largely natural resource driven and it leverages the states rich mineral resources. The key sectors are:

• Cement:   Chhattisgarh is the 5th largest producer of cement in India with a capacity of over 10 Million Tonnes per annum, Chhattisgarh accounts for over 10% of India’s cement production. Chhattisgarh’s advantage in the sector lies in the fact that it has large reserves of lime stone. Lime stone production stood at around 200 Million Metric Tonnes in the year 2006-2007. At present the state has 9 major cement plants & 12 mini cement plants. These include A. V. Birla Group (Grasim Industries), Gujral Ambuja Cement, ACC, TATA, L&T, Lafarge etc : -

•Aluminium:   Chhattisgarh’s share in India’s Bauxite & Coal reserves stands at 5.5% & 16% respectively. This makes the state one of the leading producers of Aluminium in India. In 2006-2007 it produced 2,50,000 Tonnes of Aluminium representing around 15% of India’s total production. Some of the major projects under implementation in the State are:

A US $ 803 Mn. expansion plan by BALCO, a part of Vedanta resources group, to increase its production capacity from 100000 tonnes to 350000 tonnes per annum. BALCO is also setting up a 540 MW electricity generation plant for captive consumption.

Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. too plans to setup a 50000 tonnes capacity aluminum plant in the state with an investment of US $ 90 Mn.

GMR Energy (1000 MW.)
Essar Power (1050 MW.)
Videocon (1100 MW.)
Bhushan Energy (1000 MW.)
